About TMTA    

Texas Music Teachers Association is a nonprofit educational organization. Founded in 1886, it is dedicated to the promotion of high quality individual and group music instruction. Its membership includes over two thousand teachers in sixty five local organizations. All activities of the association are educational and promote the art of music.  TMTA is affiliated with Music Teachers National Association.

TMTA members enjoy professional activities sponsored by local, state and national organizations.  These include the state convention and national conference, both excellent opportunities for education and enrichment for members and students.

Student Affiliate is a program of the Texas Music Teachers Association, established June 14, 1951, to provide musical experiences beyond those usually available through private music instruction. Student Affiliate provides recognition for achievement in various phases of musical education for grades one through the collegiate level.  All student activities of Student Affiliate are funded through the Texas Music Teachers Educational Foundation.

Texas Music Teachers Association was founded in 1865 and incorporated in 1927.  The Student Affiliate program began in 1951.  The Texas Music Teachers Educational Foundation was established in 1980.



The TMTA Archives are housed in The Texas Collection which is located in the historic Carroll Library building on the Baylor University campus in Waco, Texas, at the corner of 5th and Speight streets.
