Native American Elements in Piano Repertoire by the Indianists and Present-Day Native American Composers
Piano repertoire that uses Native American melodies, rhythms, and motifs as compositional material will be presented in a lecture recital that gives historical background, information about how the original tribal melodies were collected, and examples of artworks that paralleled the Indianist movement.  Compositions will be performed from the "Indianist" era (1890-1920) by American and European composers inspired by Antonin Dvorak to compose a truly American music, as well as newer "Classical Native" compositions with Native American elements but by Native American composers.
