2007-2008 MTNA/TMTA STUDENT COMPOSITION 

The Texas State level of this competition concluded with three winners and one State Representative.  All four of these students progressed to the South Central Division level.  Our Texas judges were Susan Ogilvy and Dr. Paul Bonneau from Denton, and Dr. Kevin Costley of Russellville, Arkansas.

2006-2007 MTNA/TMTA STUDENT COMPOSITION

This competition is now completed at the Texas State level for 2006.  This fall there were three distinguished judges, who finished their evaluations on the October 25th deadline: Brian Henkelmann, Michael Springer, and Ronald Bennett, NCTM.

 There were 22 entrants total: 5 at the elementary level, 7 - junior, 9 -senior, and one  - Young Artist.

 Our Texas State Winners are:

 Elementary - Justin Weyn for "Airplane Flight" (teacher - Susan Liu) Junior - Nicholas Venter for "Avalanche" (teacher - Lee McKay) Senior - Eileen Kwee "Spanish Air" (teacher - Eliot Theodore Schecter)

 There is only one Young Artist entrant, Rolan Duvvury at both the Texas State and South Central Division levels.  Mr. Duvvury's score, "Larghetto" from Symphony No. 2 in E major, (teacher - Vera Balaban) has been sent to the MTNA National level of this competition. The scores of the above winners now proceed to the Division level.

The first place compositions have been sent on for adjudication in the South Central 
Division. We had single entries in the Elementary and the Young Artist divisions. In 
accordance with new MTNA rules, their compositions will serve as representatives 
of Texas in their divisions in the South Central Division.  These students are Marcia 
Chen,
Missouri City (Ann Witherspoon), Elementary Division and Joseph Dunlap, 
May (Pattie Dunlap), Young Artist Division.
