“What Can Science Tell Us About Sight Reading?”
Scientific studies have revealed a wealth of information regarding the visual habits that contribute to
good sight reading.  This presentation will distill information from articles and research and present it in a
concise and friendly format.  It will encourage a greater emphasis on sight reading in piano lessons and
hopefully will result in some lively discussions regarding the traditional methods by which sight reading
has been taught

“Exploring the Creative Process through Music Composition and
Improvisation.”
Composition is the act of making a unified and organized structure.  This often requires reflection.  On
the other hand, improvisation is completely spontaneous.  Unity and organization may be secondary in
importance.  The differences and similarities between composition and improvisation provide a rich
dichotomy that gives life and tension to much music.
