June 13, 2020 TMTA Newsletter

Posted by Abby Hehenberger on 06/13/2020
Dear TMTA Members,
It is Saturday and we would have been on the second day of our convention. Hopefully, this newsletter is giving you a taste of the excitement that surrounds all of us at the yearly conventions. This newsletter cannot replace our convention, but it does help us see how many activities are continuing to thrive. As I type this information, I think about how sweet it will be when we are all together next summer. Meanwhile, take time to be thankful for what TMTA offers our teachers and students. I am so grateful for all the volunteers who help keep our activities moving along and my colleagues who are so supportive.
Musically,
Teresa Crawford, NCTM
TMTA President 2018-2020

Theory Testing for Fall 2020

There have been concerns about how TMTA will be administering the Fall 2020 Theory Test. Due to the amount of calls and questions, the TMTA Officers want the membership to know that there will be NO online theory test for the fall. However, exact execution of the test will be determined as the testing period draws closer. We will keep you updated in the newsletter and through emails to chairs.

2021 MTNA FOUNDATION FELLOW NOMINATIONS FROM TEXAS MTA

The TMTA Board has approved the nominations of Courtney Crappell, NCTM and Fredrica Phillips to be MTNA Foundations Fellows in 2021. We will be soliciting funds later to honor these two outstanding members of our organization. Meanwhile, we say “Congratulations.”

CONGRATULATIONS BEST OF STATE WINNER, FORT WORTH MTA!

The TMTA Best of State award recognizes and highlights the accomplishments of a TMTA local association. Fort Worth MTA was selected because of their growth, involvement in TMTA, new and innovative programming, and a special outreach they presented to cancer patients.

Fort Worth MTA saw big increases in membership, festivals, and theory testing. They have also implemented many new programs in the last year which include adding strings and vocal to their Solo Festival, beginning a book discussion forum (over piano pedagogy books), joining the Amazon Smile program for non-profits, and participating with donations on Giving Tuesday. Their most exciting new event covered three days of live musical performances for cancer patients at UT Southwest Simmons Center. With Steinways provided by Steinway Hall, pianos were placed outside treatment and infusion rooms for patients to enjoy. Teachers, as well as students, performed over the three days. FW MTA is looking to add another local outreach this spring. Because of the growth and innovative programs along with outreach, Fort Worth has been selected as Best of State.

The Gardener: Peace My Heart
Peace, my heart, let the time for the parting be sweet.
Let it not be a death but completeness.
Let love melt into memory and pain into songs.
Let the flight through the sky end in the folding of the wings over the nest.
Let the last touch of your hands be gentle like the flower of the night.
Stand still, 0 Beautiful End, for a moment, and say your last words in silence.
I bow to you and hold up my lamp to light you on your way.
- Rabindranath Tagore
I invite you to pause for a moment of silence to remember those we have lost.

Donations needed for Student Awards!

Many teachers and individuals make donations to TMTA on their convention registration. Since we are not having our 2020 Convention, we are still in need of donations to help cover the student awards we will be giving out this year. Please take time to donate!

To encourage more charitable giving in 2020, the recently enacted government stimulus bill (the “CARES Act”) provides additional tax deduction incentives for donors. Please check the IRS website for details.
