TMTA Membership Details
ACTIVE MEMBERS of TMTA join through our national affiliate, MTNA. On your membership application, you will join MTNA and TMTA, and you may also choose to join a local Texas teacher association. Becoming a member of these organizations has never been easier and can be completed by going to the MTNA website. After the information fields are completed, the system quickly calculates dues for national, state and local membership, as appropriate. Once the application process is completed, members can print out a confirmation sheet with their member number and a copy of their membership information.
- MTNA dues are $81. Seniors are $60.75.
- Texas state dues are $45. Seniors are $33.75.
- Local association dues vary by association. (If you do not enter an amount for local association dues in the appropriate space, you will be listed as an ancillary member. Ancillary members have all the rights of membership except their students cannot participate in student activities since this must be done through a local association.)
For more information about a particular local association, contact the local president of the organization. Each local association has its own guidelines, membership qualifications, and activities. The local president can advise you about joining that association and answer any questions you have. For a listing of local associations and their presidents, click here.
ASSOCIATE MEMBERS shall be teachers who live outside Texas but teach pupils residing in the state. Persons engaged in music merchandising and persons interested in the art of music who are not engaged in teaching are eligible for associate membership. Associate members shall pay state and national dues and may avail themselves of all opportunities offered by MTNA and TMTA except that they may not vote or hold office.
COLLEGIATE membership is open to all college students currently involved in music study, who are also members of an affiliated association. Membership may be with either local associations or collegiate chapters. Collegiate members shall be entitled to the same privileges as Active members, but shall not have the right to vote or hold office. They may enter students in TMTA competitions and events. Requirements for MTNA competitions are set by MTNA and do not allow Collegiate members to enter students in MTNA competitions. National collegiate dues are $19. There are no separate state dues for collegiate membership. Membership is made through MTNA.
MTNA Collegiate Chapter Members do not pay TMTA-SA Dues, but all members of a Collegiate Chapter may be counted as Student Affiliate Members of a local Association. The TMTA Office must be notified in writing by the Collegiate Chapter Advisor, with cc to the local SA Chair of the local affiliation of any Collegiate Chapter. Collegiate Chapter Members may hold TMTA-SA Membership with only one local association. No Collegiate Chapter Members will be counted as members of a local student affiliate after March 31.
